Lithuanian State Wind Orchestra "TRIMITAS"
The most famous and the most popular Lithuanian Wind Orchestra of all times was founded by composer and conductor Vitas Zilius in 1957. Then he could hardly even imagine a modest band of the Vilnius Central Park of Culture and Leisure to become the leader among Lithuanian wind bands in as little as ten years. At different periods the Orchestra was led by V.Aleksa, M.Tamosiunas, L.Ciapas, R.Pasiunas, R.Petraitis. Each of them contributed to the growth and flourishing of the Orchestra.
The "Golden Age" of the band commenced in 1964 when R.Balciunas started conducting the Orchestra. It was his extraordinary energy, initiative and talent that created the Orchestra of today, the Orchestra that was given the sonorous name of "Trimitas" in 1966 and the status of National Orchestra in 1971. Since then the Trimitas Orchestra became a part and parcel of the musical culture of Lithuania. The most famous brass performers played and play in the Trimitas Orchestra now. Many graduates of the Academy of Music receive their baptism of fire and an excellent brass schooling in the Trimitas Orchestra.
It is a must-be of every major national holiday as well as of the majority of prestigious international wind orchestra festivals held in UK, Germany, Sweden, France where "Trimitas" is always awarded major prizes. A few decades ago the Trimitas Orchestra was a frequent guest of the most famous festivals and halls of Russia, the former Czechoslovakia, Poland, Hungary. Nowadays, the main touring routes lead to the Western Europe (i.e. besides the countries mentioned above, it gives concerts in Italy, Spain, The Netherlands, Luxembourg, Norway,Irland, Finland, etc.).
The international success and recognition of the Trimitas Orchestra originate from its high professionalism, the diverse and interesting repertoire, theatrical performance inspired by Maestro R.Balciunas who was awarded the grand prize at the competition of conductors in Germany in 1994.
The most famous Lithuanian and foreign soloists, conductors and composers from UK, Germany, Holland, Sweden give concerts together with Trimitas Orchestra.
Each year the Trimitas Orchestra introduces its worshipers to an original concert repertoire. The greatest popularity enjoy marches, classical, sacral, contemporary music. Original pieces have been written for Trimitas Orchestra by B.Dvarionas, E.Balsys, J.Juzeliunas, J.& V.Juozapaitis, F.Bajoras, A.Brazinskas, R.Zigaitis, T.Makacinas, M.Tamosiunas, K.Daugela, T.Adomavicius, R.Giedraitis. Composers B.Gorbulskis, J.Navakauskas and A.Raudonikis were particulartly involved with the Trimitas Orchestra, each of them prepared several individual repertoires.
The Trimitas Orchestra produced 12 long plays, 9 cassettes, 7 CD's, recorded over 200 tracks for the Lithuanian Radio Fund. The band frequently performs at various shows of the Lithuanian National Television.
Since 1992 the orchestra is run by prof. Algirdas Budrys, director Romualdas Barvainis, chief conductor Romas Balciunas, conductors: composer and arranger Kazys Daugela, Ugnius Vaiginis and Julius Cernius, leader of choreographic group Dalia Marcisauskiene.
