NANSET WIND ENSEMBLE
Nanset Wind Ensemble (former Nanset Ungdomsmusikkorps, NUMK) from Larvik, a town on the south-east coast of Norway, is today one of the leading wind ensembles in Norway, performing to great acclaim since its founding in 1945. The ensemble provides a rich and varied musical experience for both amateurs, instrumentalist students and professional musicians. Nanset's mission is to play good music on a high international level and to be musical pioneers within the symphonic band movement. Nanset always attempts to play even more innovative and challenging music than before, and has always been among the first to perform music by notable composers such as Karel Husa, Yngve Slettholm, Warren Benson, Vaclav Nelhybel, Vincent Persichetty, David Maslanka and Michael Colgrass.
The ensemble has toured extensively both in Norway and on the continent, visiting Sweden, Denmark, Germany (including former East Germany), France, Belgium, Holland, England, Luxembourg, the former Czechoslovakia, and the United States.

In addition to regular concerts, Nanset is often bradcasted on the Norwegian National Radio, commissions new works and has premiered the new band compositions of many young Norwegian composers. The music includes a wide variety of traditional band music as well as transcriptions, popular music, and solo features, and the concerts can offer up to everything for premiere performances of avante garde wind music to programs for school children.
The last twenty years the ensemble has achieved incredible results in competitions. Several times has the band won the premier division in the Norwegian championship. Additionally, on six occations Nanset has participated in the Wereld Muziek Concours in Kerkrade, Holland, regarded as the world championship for bands. In 1993 Nanset managed to get hold of a fourth place in the concert division, which is the best ever of any Norwegian bands.
The last years success is much thanks to Odd Terje Lysebo, who has been Nansets conductor since 1969. His untraditional thinking has created an environment where the band encourages and promotes musical excellence and offers its musicians the opportunity to experience the efforts, rewards, and great personal satisfaction resulting for creative achievement.
