Rundfunk - Blasorchester Leipzig
About us/ About the RBORBO –
Connected with Saxony The RBO creates innovative music offerings for the cultural area of Leipzig and is supported by the ‘Kulturraumgesetz’ (a law to regulate geographical coverage of cultural service). Thus the RBO is a ‘musical ambassador’ that represents nationwide the lively culture of the districts Leipziger Land, Muldentalkreis, Delitzsch and Torgau-Oschatz.
Diversity & quality
The diversified repertoire of the RBO, which contains specially arranged compositions, is constantly enlarged by new programme offerings. The framework of an event defines the proper performance – whether festive and solemn in concert halls or churches, whether atmospheric at a ball or during light programmes or on open-air stages – the RBO is familiar with all genres. It is a tradition for the RBO to meet high expectations. It is rewarded with a positive feedback from both critics and its audience. For the RBO, this is a real compliment, and an incentive to improve artistic charm constantly.
Big tradition
Founded in 1950, the ensemble worked for 41 years for the radio station in Leipzig. During this time the RBO achieved a high level of recognition through a countless number of performances in radio and television. Particularly the unique sound endeared the RBO to its audience. Numerous tours brought the special sound to many countries. After the separation from the radio station, the RBO kept its tuneful name. Today the Rundfunk-Blasorchester Leipzig presents itself with a new profile and new successes.
Chief conductorSince August 2002 the Rundfunk-Blasorchester Leipzig has had a new artistic head:
Jan Cober (*1951) The RBO is glad to have won one of the most renowned international wind orchestra conductors over. But Jan Cober’s decision to work for the RBO is well thought-out too. The top Dutch conductor, successor of Jochen Wehner who was the orchestra’s director for many years, continues to present the RBO as a cachet. For Jan Cober the allure of a special orchestra is associated with the intention to enhance the unique sound of the RBO. Moreover Jan Cober is responsible for the artistic direction of the educational institution “Bläserakademie Sachsen”. He brings in experience as a university lecturer when it comes to qualified education and further training of young musicians.
